Meet Tae (Ty) Simons!
Kia ora! My name is Tae (Ty) Simeon, and I’m from Moerewa in the Far North.
I’ve been cutting hair in a shop for about three years, but my journey started back in high school, giving the bros fresh cuts at home. Since then, I’ve levelled up my skills and completed the Certificate in Commercial Barbering (Level 4) at Ara.
Ty has a real passion for drop fades—whether high or low. He sees it as one of the most underrated cuts, an all-rounder style that always looks sharp and fresh. When he’s behind the chair, you’ll catch him vibing to an eclectic mix of music, from hip hop and reggae to country and golden oldies—if the energy’s right, he’s all in.
Questions and Answers
Tae Simons
How long have you been cutting hair for?
Professionally, in the shop about 2 to 3 years but have been cutting since 2018. It was like a side hustle cutting the hair of the boys, two teachers at school and students.
Do you enjoy cutting hair at Barber & Co?
I love it! Like the first day and the first weeks, I was already comfortable, the boys showed me the way of the system here and sort of just fell into place.
Who is the most famous person you have cut at Barber & Co?
For myself I have still yet to cut a celebrity’s hair but I did see a few of the WAH boys turn up. The one that I was really fizzing about was James Fisher, he’s another naughty north boy and it was just hard to keep the excitement contained.
What do you do in your free time?
Well, I'm sort of a boring dude. I'm a father. Now I've got two kids, so if I'm not working, most of the time I'm with them, and that's pretty much it really. I just spend my time with my boys as much as I can.
Why Barber & Co and why should people come and see you guys or specifically you?
The haircuts here, you wouldn’t get any better haircuts in town than Barber & Co. Besides that, the vibes here are just unmatched. The boys here will make you feel comfortable no matter what and no matter which barber you choose to cut your hair. Everyone is family here
